Winter Break News/Schedule & All City Meet Highlights

Congratulations to Loveland High Swimmers and Divers on their win at the City Meet last Friday!

All athletes played a part in this victory, every swim made a difference and everyone has worked hard throughout the season to get us to this moment.

Which brings us to Winter Break…

Let not lose all the progress we’ve made! While practices cannot be mandatory over winter break, athletes are STRONGLY ENCOURAGED (note the use of all caps) to attend at many team practices as possible, or if traveling, to complete the posted swim workouts on their own.

The team is right in the middle of the build/aerobic phase of the season, and we will not ease off training over the next two weeks – the season is too short for that. Because of this steady build, it’s important that athletes not lose fitness during this down time. When we return from break we enter into the most physically demanding phase of training (the power phase) and athletes will want to be in good health, good aerobic shape, and ready for the next level so they can progress as they’re meant to over the season. By following the plan, athletes should continue the trend of improvement and be absolutely ready for Conference and State meets!

The Schedule

This Week

Monday 12/21:

  • Swim at LHS pool from 7:30-9am
  • Weights at LHS weight room from 9:30-10:30am

Tuesday 12/22:

  • Swim at LHS pool from 7:30-9am
  • Stretching from 9-9:20am

Wednesday 12/23:

  • Swim at LHS pool from 7:30-9am
  • Dryland from 9-9:20am

Merry Christmas! No contact between coaches and athletes is permitted from 12/24 to 12/28. These are great days to both recover if you need it, or to break up the monotony of the pool with a different type of workout.

Next Week

  • Weights at LHS weight room from 9:30-10:30am

Thursday 12/31:

  • Swim at LHS pool from 7:30-9am
  • Dryland from 9-9:20am

Saturday 1/2:

For Travelers

If this holiday season has athletes on the road, don’t worry! Workouts will be posted here on the days the team practices, so we can train together in spirit. While the pool is obviously the best way to keep training, if you can’t get in the water, consider other ways to stay aerobically fit while away from home, and try to get at least 6 workouts in over the two weeks…

  • Running
  • Spinning/cycling
  • Elliptical trainer
  • Yoga
  • Fitness classes
  • Row machine
  • Snowshoeing
  • Skiing (downhill and cross country)
